to commemorate the 125th anniversary of his visit to the main city of Primorye. The portrait sculpture of Nikolai in bronze is installed on a four-facet pedestal with the dates concerning the visit engraved on each facet, in Pokrovsky Park near the Pokrovsky Cathedral. Nikolai II visited Vladivostok in 1891, when he was a cesarevitch and an heir to the Russian throne, returning from Japan which was the last country he visited on a world tour. The future tsar participated in laying the foundation stone in the construction of the Trans Siberian Railroad and its terminus building. A Triumphal Arch commemorating this event was built in Vladivostok later in 1891.
